How they met

Kevin and Melissa met at the University of Miami. They were both active members of Alpha Kappa Psi, a coed business fraternity and over a couple of years, developed a great friendship. They parted ways for graduate school, with Kevin staying at "the U" to get his MBA in Accounting and Melissa heading up to Florida State University to get her Masters degree in Interactive Media.

Throughout the next couple of years, they continued to keep in touch and even attended each others graduations.

Melissa moved to the DC area two weeks after graduating from Florida State in the spring of 2003 and in less than a month, Kevin and Melissa began dating.

How he popped the question

Kevin had been thinking of asking Melissa to marry him for some time but was struggling to come up with a creative way to pop the question. In the spring of 2007, Kevin was informed that he was eligible to apply to work in Australia for three months with PwC. After discussing his options with Melissa and his family, he decided to apply and of course, was accepted to the program.

Before setting off for his trip, Kevin sent an email to his friends to let them know about his new job opportunity and about what he was planning for Melissa while he was there. However, he didn't realize that Melissa's email was also included in the email list and so she also received detailed information about his trip and his plans for her.

After 2 and a half months in Australia, Melissa joined Kevin in Melbourne (along with their mutual friend Stephanie, who helped Melissa stay calm during the 20 hour flight). The first day there was calm and relaxing and Kevin let Melissa and Stephanie relax to adjust for the 14 hour time difference. The next morning, before he set off to work, Kevin took Melissa for a walk through the Melbourne Royal Botanical Gardens and popped the question.

Although it wasn't a complete surprise it was still a memorable moment that made the trip to Australia even better.
